Little Hainan

First day experience @ Little Hainan.

There needs to be some reengineering to be done in the process of handling customer. The smiling face Tauke Nio who is wearing high-heels is not able to cope with all the attacks from several customers that she almost cry when I ask what has happened to my order.

We ordered chicken rice X 2, one coffee and one chinese tea (ice). Coffee served cold, Tea wasn’t warm anymore cause it has been sitting on the bench for 15 minutes before the waitress noticed that they are sitting there.

Secondly the chicken rice.
The meat is cut and let dry somewhere on the chopping board. The rice is fresh out of the cooker and its sticky.

Though I am not a Hainan but I grew up with a Hainanese Family living next door that gave us heaps of chicken rice. I know how to make those rice ball right and I think I don’t need to teach a Hainanese that what she did to the rice is wrong.

I also noticed the cook being one who has to many places including Magenta, SCR and etc.

    Easy to shoot off one’s mouth when one is no in the situation as in your case. Sounds like a personal attack rather than an objective comment.

    Sounds like an expert in chicken rice(& food critic ?) and should provide constructive ctiticism but none is forth coming as expected. Typical.

    Photo shows a new shop and there was an issue with cleanliness?

    I thought food was excellent though flow of things could be improved. Could be due to lack of waitresses.

    I’m not expert in chicken rice but I learn straight from someone who migrated to Kuching from “Wenchang, Hainan”. Rest assured that I will not cook for you. I’ll only cook for my family and they love it. My friend who has tasted rice ball made by me has told me that mine is much better than theirs. However, I wasn’t think that my version is good enough to sell in a shop. If you want some suggestion on that I can give one word “ginger” and a phrase “Hainanese pickles”.

    Check the one on the plate of rice, tell me what’s wrong with that pic? (table surface and the chilli on the saucer for pointer)

    12 friends dine there in the first two days, and 12 out of 12 said “I’ll not return” for various reason. First impression kills their desire to retry.

    I would suggest her to try out one chicken rice stall somewhere nearby called “auntie’s corner” Compare the taste and the presentation minus the utensil.

    That’s what you said about the situation. Since your ip is in Australia, I wouldn’t think you will be able to go there on the opening. Plus that is the same excuse that the lady boss is giving. To all my 12 friends who were there, they all agreed with one thing that is that there are enough waitresses at the premise, but all looked like headless chicken runing around.

    At first I refrained myself from commenting about a person. And since you mentioned in your post that I go personal, I will go personal in this reply.

    This shop need some process re-engineering and some PR lesson!
    for start, Here are some references from a friend of mine, Let me qualify that at first, I was against her suggestion to blog about the lady boss’ attitude. I will add some suggestion to it

    “Hold on”
    “Wait and sit down, I need to serve xxxxx first”
    “Do I still owe you anything?”
    (the rest I wouldn’t want to blog it)

    here are the suggestions
    “Please wait, I will get back to you”
    “How may I help you?”
    “How’s thing? Is there anything else that we miss?”

    My comment about her high heels is for her safety. OSH Kuching guidelines in Malaysia prohibits wearing of high heels by workers in the food industries. Its not a fashion issue but its a law issue. Suggest to check with DOSH for guidelines. Furthermore, I fear that she might slip and fall and trust me, slip and fall can cause a lot of injury including slip disc (speaking from experience after an accident over wet floors that renders me six months of physio-theraphy)
